TERRENCE WATCH!-part VIII

Of course, you know my one-and-only is the only one that could wake this sleeping beauty out of her mini-vacation from the blogosphere...welcome back Terrence and IW!

I saw this from the New York Daily News:

Terrence Howard will make his Great White Way debut in February as Brick in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."

"It's confirmed. We're there," the show's producer, Stephen Byrd, told me Tuesday. "Terrence and I were together last week; he's on board."

Other stellar names strongly tipped for the African-American production of Tennessee Williams' classic play include Phylicia Rashad, Giancarlo Esposito and James Earl Jones as Big Daddy.

Sources says the plum role of Maggie the Cat - immortalized by Elizabeth Taylor in the 1958 film version opposite Paul Newman - is coming down to either Anika Noni Rose or Kerry Washington. The play will open at the Broadhurst Theatre, after three weeks of previews, on March 6.

Now let's see whether director Debbie Allen makes Brick gay, or fudges it like in the movie!

From IW: That will be the bomb cast to watch, and I love seeing plays on Broadway...the big name black productions are always the hot hot hot tickets...guess I'll be going to NY in February or March. Unfortunately, they'll probably get Kerry Washington to play Maggie the Cat, tho I feel Anika Noni Rose would fit the role and what it entails much, much better. And I love Debbie Allen, but she can sometimes spread enough corn around to feed Somalia.

As for Terrence, some wonder if he can handle Broadway...but as I remember it, Brick was a monumentally self-centered, closeted homosexual knucklehead with a deep seated hatred of himself and women. In other words, Terrence may be getting his first Tony award soon, no problem...kudos!
